Old Kilbeggan Distillery: the oldest distillery in the world

The Old Kilbeggan Distillery is not only the oldest distillery in Ireland, but in the entire world. Here you will learn more about Kilbeggan Whiskey, and we also have two delicious recipes for you: the Kilbeggan Appletizer and the Irish Mint Julep.

Old Kilbeggan Distillery

Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey has been produced in Ireland since 1757. The Old Kilbeggan Distillery was built in the town of the same name from the remains of a former monastery. This location was not chosen by chance, as everything needed to distil good whiskey was available there. Today the Old Kilbeggan Distillery is the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world and produces the barley spirit of the same name.

Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey

The Kilbeggan Distillery produces 250,000 bottles of whiskey per year. Kilbeggan is a Blended Irish Whiskey and is artfully married with Malt and Grain WhiskeyDouble distilled, Kilbeggan acquires the smoothness typical of Irish whiskeys while also developing its characterful and harmonious taste.

Flavour profile

On the palate, one discovers pronounced notes of:

  • Peach
  • Caramel
  • Vanilla
  • Almond nougat
  • Sweetish malt tones

The Signature Drink is the Kilbeggan Appletizer, in which the whiskey is topped up with apple juice. The sweetness of the apple juice highlights the vanilla and caramel notes. At the same time, the acidity provides a fruity balance and a well-balanced finish.
