Pernod is today one of the best-known anise-flavored drinks. The history of anise products goes back centuries. Distillation instructions and secret recipes for preparing these spirits have existed since time immemorial. During Vincent van Gogh’s lifetime, Pernod was considered THE drink of artists. The base ingredient is star anise, which is distilled together with other herbs. The essence is mixed with water, sugar, and triple-distilled alcohol, then bottled at 40% ABV in the familiar green bottles.
