Mineral Water and rPET: Naturally Sustainable

Mineral water has always been a naturally sustainable product. It comes from underground springs and is the result of a natural filtration process that takes place over several decades. As it filters through various layers of rock, it is naturally purified and enriched, which gives it its exceptional purity and mineral composition.

Here’s how rPET works in Switzerland

Recycling only begins when the raw material re-enters the cycle. In Switzerland, empty PET beverage bottles are therefore collected in a targeted manner, sorted, and transformed into a food-grade raw material through a multi-step process.

The unique feature: Swiss recycled PET (rPET) is used to produce new PET bottles, without any production of virgin plastic—a closed-loop PET cycle that ensures true sustainability.

The PET cycle: the example of Arkina and Rhäzünser

The mineral water brands Arkina bleu and Rhäzünser, produced in Rhäzüns by Feldschlösschen Getränke AG, have been using 100% Swiss rPET since this summer. This makes them pioneers in the field of sustainable packaging solutions.

The shrink films for the PET multipacks are also made entirely from recycled materials. Result:
thanks to the use of rPET and recycled films, over 430 tons of CO₂ emissions can be avoided each year.

Reusable glass as a complementary solution

In addition to PET, Feldschlösschen’s reusable glass bottles also make a significant contribution to reducing packaging waste. They are reused up to 40 times and are characterized by an extremely low ecological footprint, particularly when filled and consumed regionally.

Conclusion

Mineral water is sustainable by nature—and the targeted use of rPET and reusable glass further reinforces this advantage. Brands such as Arkina blau and Rhäzünser demonstrate that responsible behavior and high quality standards can go hand in hand.

Whether it’s PET or glass, making a conscious choice means actively contributing to environmental protection.
